A face lens draws layers on a face that the camera tracks. It has no fixed length: it runs until your app stops it. When several faces are in the picture, the lens follows the largest one.
A lens has up to 8 layers, drawn in list order: the first layer is at the back, the last on top. Add one with Add layer in the Layers panel.
Every layer also has a Layer id, which triggers use to name it, and Visible at start. Images are PNGs you add in the Assets tab. For sprite sheets, see Sprite sheets.
Face stickers, and animated sprites set to On a face anchor, have these settings:
A face width is measured from the distance between the eyes, so sizes and offsets grow and shrink with the face on screen.
Full face is the centre of the whole face, from the brows to the chin. Choosing it sets the scale to 1 and the offset to 0, so a mask drawn at the face's proportions covers the face.
Layers are flat. They follow the face's position, size and tilt, but they have no perspective when the head turns or nods, and the head never hides them.
While no face is tracked, the layers on the face are not drawn. Colour looks, frame overlays and full-frame sprites keep drawing.
On a photo in the viewer you can drag a sticker or a face sprite to place it. Its anchor moves to the nearest point of the face; hold Alt to keep the anchor. A layer on Full face always keeps its anchor. See Studio tour.
A colour look grades the picture through a lookup table (LUT). Its image must be a 512 × 512 PNG that holds a 64 × 64 × 64 LUT as an 8 × 8 grid of 64 × 64 tiles: red runs across each tile, green down each tile, and blue steps from tile to tile, left to right, then top to bottom. An image of any other size draws nothing, and the layer's form warns you.
Intensity blends from the original picture (0) to the full look (1). A colour look grades everything below it in the list: the camera picture and any layers under it. Put it first to grade only the camera. The Colour look template starts you with a warm grade.
Particles start at the Anchor plus the Offset. The Emitter sets Particles per second, Lifetime (ms), Speed, Direction (degrees), Spread (degrees), Size and Gravity. Speed, size and gravity are in face widths. A direction of 0 is right, 90 is down and −90 is up. Once thrown, particles don't follow the head.
Emit when the lens starts keeps particles coming while the layer is visible and a face is tracked. The Emit particles action throws a burst. The Max particles alive values of all particle layers add up to at most 300.
A trigger runs actions when an event happens. A face lens listens to:
mouth.open
smile
blink
brows.raised
head.tilt
lens.started
round.start
Its actions are Show, Hide, Play sprite, Emit particles and Play animation. Show face signals, under the viewer, shows the live signal values for the current face. See Triggers and your events and Keyframe animation.
A lens's images add up to at most 2 MiB. Your workspace may also have keep-out zones that keep layers off the mouth or the eyes. See Rules and keep-out zones.
