A screen effect is a short animation that plays in an overlay above your app's own screens. It uses no camera and no face: think of confetti when a player wins, a badge that pops in, or a flash with a shake.
Every effect has a fixed length. Set it in Effect settings as Duration (ms), from 100 to 10 000. The effect always ends there.
An effect has up to 8 layers, drawn in list order: the first at the back, the last on top. Add layer offers five kinds:
Fit is Contain (each frame fits inside the screen) or Cover (each frame fills the screen and the overflow is cropped). For sprite sheets, see Sprite sheets.
Positions are fractions of the screen: (0, 0) is the top-left corner and (1, 1) the bottom-right. Scale is the width as a multiple of the screen's shorter side, up to 2. Particle speed, size and gravity use the shorter side too, so an effect keeps its look on any phone.
Shake and pulse fade out over their duration. At Intensity 1, a shake moves layers up to 3 % of the screen's shorter side, and a pulse grows them by up to 10 %. A motion moves only the effect's own layers; it can't move your app's screen.
effect.ended
The timeline sits below the viewer. Its ruler runs from 0 to the effect's length, with a tick every half second. Each layer has a row with a bar for when it plays:
Click a row to select its layer. Click or drag on the ruler to jump: the viewer replays the effect from 0 up to that time, so particles and sprites are where they would be. On the ruler, the left and right arrow keys move 100 ms (with Shift, 1 second), and Home and End go to either end. Keyframe clips have rows of their own; see Keyframe animation.
An effect's triggers listen to:
effect.started
level.complete
Effects have no face signals and no threshold. Their actions are Show, Hide, Play sprite, Emit particles, Run motion and Play animation. See Triggers and your events.
The viewer plays the draft over a generic phone screen of 390 × 845 points, with grey placeholder bars instead of a real app. Click an image or a sprite to select it. Drag it to move it, drag a corner to resize it, drag the round handle to rotate it, or use its Opacity slider. When the effect ends, the viewer shows Effect ended with Restart.
Screen effects have no Test on phone and no preview images.
Screen effects must be switched on for your workspace, or the delivery API answers 403. The Developers page shows which products are on. An effect's images add up to at most 3 MiB, and your workspace may have a flashing limit or a screen-coverage cap. See Rules and keep-out zones.
